Locals have built shantied to give stray dogs shelter during rainstorms in Thailand.

Footage shows the DIY shelters made from old roof metal sheets, wood, and plastic placed on the edge of roads in Prachinburi province on January 6.

The structures have roofs and walls to protect them from rain and winds, while some had blankets inside.

Resident Uncle Peak said food and water were also available inside, which are being refiled.

He said: 'We in the neighbourhood made them because we pitied abandoned dogs.'

The road was a shortcut to the Mueang Prachinburi district, and it is usually not busy, so many people came to leave their dogs there.

The first shelter was built five years ago and the number of shelters grew until it became a unique landmark in the area.

He said that no dog was hit by a car there. The dogs were also tame and did not chase away people.
