A stray dog trapped overnight in a resident's metal gate was freed by firefighters in Thailand.

The hapless male pooch had fought another stray, but became stuck between the gate's bars while running away in the Soi Sattahip Sukumvit 19 area of Chonburi province on October 11 evening.

The homeowner named Duangchan said she was woken up by the mutt's crying and called an animal rescue team in the morning as it was already midnight.

Officers responded to the scene and found the exhausted canine sitting with its head squeezed between the gate railings. They used metal cutters to cut off a section of the gate and after 10 minutes, freed the scraggly dog which was seen running off into freedom.

Duangchan said: 'In the middle of the night, I heard dogs barking and chasing each other in the alley. Then I heard a dog howling.

'I woke up to check what was happening, and saw a stray with its head stuck on the gate of the house. It must have stuck its head inside while trying to hide from the other dog.'
