A pregnant woman was caught giving birth in an elevator and then discarded the newborn in a trash bin in southern China.

CCTV footage filmed in Chongqing on August 21, shows a woman dressed in black overalls entering an elevator with a suitcase. Within moments, she cradles a newborn baby from beneath her trouser leg.

As the elevator stopped at various floors, she hurriedly wiped away the blood from the infant and the elevator floor with tissues, appearing anxious. To avoid being seen by people on those floors, she tried to conceal the baby in a corner of the elevator.

Two minutes later, she exited the elevator, leaving the infant in a trash bin nearby, making a feeble attempt to cover the baby with a few tissues.

An elderly passerby noticed her odd behaviour and glanced in her direction, but didn’t spot anything unusual. Following this, the woman cleaned her shoes with more tissues and took another elevator to leave the scene.

An insider reveals, "After the baby was discovered by a security guard, emergency services were called immediately, and the baby was rushed to a nearby hospital."

Mr Wang, a security guard at Chongqing’s Fifth Hospital, witnessed the baby's arrival at the hospital. He recounted, "That night, I saw the paramedics from the Wujing Hospital bringing the baby to our hospital. I heard that the woman was touring Chongqing with a travel group. Shortly after, both the woman and the tour guide arrived at the hospital, and the police also came to take statements."

Responding to the incident on August 25, the local police station stated, "We have intervened in the matter. The child is safe and sound. Due to privacy concerns, we cannot disclose further details at this time."
