A barber with an four-hour each-way commute between Bandung and Jakarta reacted with joy to the opening of Indonesia's first high-speed railway.

The line, dubbed WHOOSH, opened on Monday 2 October and is in stark contrast to the UK, who's HS2 high-speed rail project has been mired in years of delays, massive overspend and widespread public opposition.

At his barber shop the man spoke (in Indonesian) about his experience hope for the new line.

"My name is Firmansyah. I'm 40 years old. I'm from Bandung. I've been working as a barber in Jakarta for almost 15 years. I travel between Jakarta and Bandung once in three weeks by motorbike or bus. Taking a bus to Bandung takes about 4 hours. It's almost the same as going by train."

"The high-speed train is an advanced technology, which is indeed the first time in Indonesia. I'm one of the people who want to try the fast train, especially for those who work in Jakarta and live in Bandung."

"This is the time I've been waiting for. I can take the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed train. It's my dream."

In the footage, he is seen entering the station where he says: "I'll have a look first. The entry is really great. It's like at the airport."

Boarding the train he continues: "We depart at 9 o'clock. This is very good. It's not seen on other trains in Indonesia.”

Not long later he gets to Bandung: "We have arrived. We departed at 9 o'clock and about 40 minutes later arrived at Bandung."

"I hope in the future there will be fast trains to other areas such as Central Java, East Java, and even farther. Because it helps save time to meet people and families from Jakarta to places like Central Java, East Java, and as far as Surabaya. I'm so appreciative of the cooperation between Indonesia and China."
