This is the scary moment a one-year-old baby rolled 650 feet down a sloped street in a walker after venturing out of the family home.

The incident took place in Dazhou City, in the south-western Chinese province of Sichuan, on October 9.

The footage shows the infant somehow managing to make his way down the steps in front of the home while still in the walker before rolling off down the street and onto the road with his feet no longer touching the ground.

The baby reportedly rolled some 200 metres (650 feet) before his grandmother noticed he was missing and ran outside after him.

CCTV footage show Mrs Yang, his grandmother, racing after the tot and returning with him and the walker.

She was reportedly making him a bottle of powdered milk and had her back turned when the adventurous infant made a break for freedom.

Mrs Yang told local media that normally, a stool is placed at the entrance to the home to block the exit, but on that day, she moved the stool when she went out and forgot to put it back, causing the child to slip out through the gap.

Mrs. Jia, the baby's mother, told local news media that the baby boy was born on October 1 last year.

The baby began to walk for the first time a month ago so Mrs. Jia and her family frequently put the baby in the walker and let him practice on the ground floor of the home.

Because her house is next to a road in the town, with a large flow of people and vehicles, she installed a total of five surveillance cameras in her home and looking out onto the street, allowing for the heart-stopping images to be caught on camera.
