A stray dog remained loyal to the very end for his kitten friend - buying the dead moggy on the roadside in China.

The feline was struck by a passing car and killed in Shaanxi, China, on Feburary 24. With no humans around to care for the cat, or provide a burial, the caring stray pooch stepped in.

Touched locals watched as the dog picked up the kitten in its mouth and carried it over to a landscaped tree. It then pawed at the ground to dig a grave for the deceased animal.

Out of fear of scaring the puppy, the filmer watched from a distance instead of going forwards to help. She said that the two little animals must have been very close friends in their wandering days.

She said: 'In the midst of the concrete jungle, it found the softest patch of earth.'
