A middle-aged woman ended up with two broken bones after she somehow snapped off a bridge's stone railing with her arms as she pulled on it while stretching during an exercise.

The incident occurred on a bridge along the river in the city of Jieyang, in China's southern Guangdong Province.

A bystander's phone accidentally captured the moment on video, which shows a group of people seen sitting to the left while apparently having an outdoor tea party.

To the right, two older women appear to be stretching while holding onto a safety guardrail. Meanwhile, another woman stood in the middle with a microphone and had set up a camera.

As her camera filmed, it caught the moment one of the women who were stretching, dressed in a long floral dress, suddenly pulled off the cylindrical stone railing that she was using for support.

She fell down and the stone came down on her legs before it broke apart and large pieces of it rolled around on all sides. The woman curled up on the ground in apparent pain as the other bystanders immediately gathered around her.

They helped her up and checked for injuries while she seemed to be screaming while still in pain.

The filmer said: 'Friendly reminder everyone, a woman in Jieyang, while exercising along the river, pulled down the stone railing. It's heard that she broke two bones. It's really unfortunate. The pitiful also have their faults. When exercising, safety should be a priority. Don't be reckless!'

The footage later came to the attention of local authorities and teams were sent out to locate the exact place of the accident.

Staff from the Municipal Engineering Maintenance Management Centre said they have since repaired the guardrails and carried out a hazard inspection on the surrounding guardrails.

They said the guardrail in question has been in use for many years, and the joint is of mortise and tenon structure. The staff blamed the incident on improper force from the citizen during use, and claimed it was not a problem with the engineering quality.
