A river in Depok City in Indonesia's West Java was filmed overflowing with huge clouds of mysterious foam on Tuesday 28 November.

The origin of the overwhelming foam is being investigated by the Depok City Government, though pollution is suspected -- a recurring problem in Indonesia, where filthy urban waterways are common.

The foam was found in Kali Baru in the Cimanggis area of the city.

Despite the head-high foam, some locals were seen casually fishing in the river, while others were spotted playing chess nearby.

Some locals were even seen throwing waste into the river, doing nothing to improve the situation.

The Depok City Environmental and Sanitation Agency (DLHK) says it is taking action.
