A hotel guest was shocked when he was suddenly woken by water pouring from the ceiling of his room like it was raining indoors.

The man said he received the watery surprise while staying at a hotel in Enshi, in Hubei Province, China, on the morning of December 2.

He said he woke up at around 7:30am by the sound of water dripping.

At first, he thought he was still dreaming. After taking a closer look, he realised there was water pouring down from the ceiling like a waterfall, soaking the table and floor.

He said the scene was so unreal that for a moment he wondered if he was still asleep somehow.

When he fully came to his senses, the man alerted hotel staff to the bizarre incident.

Phone footage captured by the guest, who appeared to be wearing a hotel robe after the leak soaked all his clothes, shows several inches of water accumulated on the floor as it poured in from above.

A later inspection reportedly revealed that the massive leak was caused by a broken air conditioning pipe.

Meanwhile, the guest said he was promptly checked into a different room and staff helped him dry his clothes.
