Tourists rescued from van when it falls into river in the Philippines
Eight tourists were rescued from a minivan that fell into a river in the Philippines.
The group of eight foreigners and four local guides were travelling from the islands of El Nido to the city proper in Puerto Princesa in Palawan province when its tires skidded off the wet bridge on January 3.
Footage shows the capsized white van in the middle of the water while a rescuer checked inside through the back door.
The rescued holidaymakers were tended for their injuries on the banks with their luggage.
Local official Jemuel Gabinete said: 'We immediately requested for rescue. All of them were safe, and none was seriously hurt.'
The tourists had minor injuries of bruises and scratches, but everyone was able to crawl out of the van immediately as the water was not too deep.
The exact cause remained unclear but officer Jemuel added the roads were slippery as it had just rained before it happened.
He said: 'e want to remind everyone to be more careful in travelling our rural roads. Thank you to the rescuers who promptly responded, and everyone was safe.'
