This is the shocking moment a girl's finger was hurt by fireworks during the New Year countdown with her boyfriend in Thailand.

Nutchanat Somjing was watching the fireworks display with her boyfriend Ray Rawadee at midnight on December 31 in Hat Yai province.

The pair gazed up at the sky to marvel at the spectacular fireworks. But while Nutchanat was turning to retrieve her phone, a flare landed right next to her, wounding her hand.

The couple went to a hospital, where Nutchanat received a tetanus shot and was treated for bleeding. Doctors also gave her anesthetics and had her undergo an X-ray scan to check for broken bones on her hand.

Nutchanat said: 'My boyfriend me to the hospital, and I remember sitting in the car crying because I was scared and in a lot of pain. I was lucky the firework did not hit any vital organs.

'The doctor said the nail gel helped protect my finger. I have scheduled follow-up appointments at the hospital because they still have to clean the wound to prevent infections.'
