Amusing footage shows young female boxers having a four-way blindfolded Muay Thai fight in Thailand.

The teenage athletes were left punching at the air as they felt their way across the boxing ring at a local fair in Phichit province on February 16.

Organisers said the blindfolded matches were the highlight of the event, with two pairs from opposing teams competing in three one-minute rounds.

Aspiring young Muay Thai boxers also had a separate category for teens where they showcased their fighting prowess.

Phichit province is known as the home of King Suriyenthrathibodi, also known as Phra Chao Suea or Tiger King, who is widely regarded as the 'father of Muay Thai'.

The combat sport originated in neighbouring Cambodia, where it is called Kun Khmer, and was used by the military of the mighty Khmer Empire. It was later copied by Siam.
