This footage was filmed and produced 29 February 2024.

The quiet neighborhood of Indiana was disrupted on Thursday afternoon when a mother and her four young children had a narrow escape from their burning rental home. Video footage from the Indianapolis Fire Department captured the intense moments as first responders rushed to the scene at 6101 E 40th St to rescue the trapped family.

Thanks to the quick action of the firefighters from both the Indianapolis Fire Department and the City of Lawrence Fire Department, the flames were brought under control within just 15 minutes. However, tragically, the family's pet dog Nova did not make it out alive.

While the mother and children miraculously escaped with their lives, one of the children was taken to Methodist Hospital to be checked out for minor injuries. Additionally, one IFD firefighter also sustained a slight injury and was taken to Methodist for treatment.

As authorities work to determine the cause of the fire, the community is coming together to support the family as they navigate this devastating event. The bravery and quick response of the firefighters undoubtedly saved lives and prevented further tragedy. Our thoughts are with the family as they recover from this traumatic experience.
