INDIANAPOLIS — Three children were rescued from the fast-moving waters of the White River on Sunday, June 22, 2025, thanks to the swift actions of Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers and the Indianapolis Fire Department Dive Team.

IMPD officers responded to a welfare check after callers reported hearing children yelling for help while rafting near the College Avenue Bridge. Upon arrival, officers found the children stranded in a strong current, clinging to bridge supports and visibly panicked. None of the children were wearing life jackets.

Two IMPD officers entered the water without hesitation and swam to the children, successfully pulling two of them to safety. The IFD Dive Team soon arrived and used a boat to rescue the third child.

All three children were evaluated and safely reunited with their parents. Authorities are reminding the public of the importance of wearing life jackets and exercising caution in swift-moving rivers.
