Forest officials successfully rescued a dolphin that was stranded in a canal in Fatehpur, Uttar Pradesh, on March 26.

Footage shows a rescue team using a large net to capture the distressed marine mammal. The dolphin was estimated to be around 8 or 9 years old.

The 6-foot-long dolphin was then carried to the Ghaghara River where it was released.

A dolphin was successfully rescued by forest department officials after it had gotten trapped inside of the Dariyabad Branch canal in northern India's Uttar Pradesh.

This incident took place in Fatehpur range of Barabanki division on March 26.

Visuals showed men capturing the dolphin from the canal using a massive fishing net.

They subsequently placed the dolphin on bed and carried it towards a river. They held the dolphin tightly, not allowing it to move as they carried the bed towards the water body. There, they carefully released the mammal into the water. It was learnt that the dolphin was six-feet long and was aged around eight-nine years. The dolphin was successfully rescued in a response time of five hours and 20 minutes. The dolphin was later released into the Ghaghara river.

According to reports, the Gangetic Dolphin had been observed for the past 10 days near Bhainsuria Bridge in Dariyabad Branch Canal under Fatehpur Range. The dolphins were continuously monitored by the forest personnel of Fatehpur Range. Taking into consideration the dolphin's safety due to low water levels in Dariyabad Branch Canal, the Divisional Forest Officer of Barabanki Forest Division, after obtaining permission for rescue and release from the Principal Chief Conservator of Forest, Wildlife, Uttar Pradesh, Lucknow, formed the Operations Team for the rescue. Under the guidance of the Operations Team, the Sub Divisional Forest Officer of Barabanki, along with the technical support of Dr. Shailendra, Director of TSA (Turtle Survival Alliance), successfully rescued the Gangetic Dolphin.
