Police rescued an injured dog from train tracks in Oklahoma.

Mike Howell, a train engineer, initially believed he had fatally struck the dog with his train, only to discover later that the canine had endured a previous injury in Wagoner.

It had a broken leg and an injured eye, but the resilient pup lay on the tracks for three days until Mike spotted him again.

Mike promptly contacted authorities, initiating a rescue mission.

Responding to the call, Lieutenant Jeff Halfacre and Captain Brad Harding said they initially doubted that the dog would survive.

However, they said they were amazed when the injured dog lifted its head upon their approach.

They eventually managed to lift him onto an ATV and transport him to safety.
