Coast Guard Crews Celebrate as Rescued Loggerhead Turtle Returns to the Sea in Florida, USA

In a heartwarming display of environmental stewardship, Coast Guard Station Marathon crewmembers recently collaborated with the Turtle Hospital to release Gumbo, a loggerhead sea turtle, back into the wild.
Gumbo's journey began after being admitted to the Turtle Hospital due to injuries sustained from a boat strike. Following a period of intensive care and rehabilitation, the resilient turtle made a full recovery, thanks to the dedicated efforts of the hospital staff.
On this memorable day, Station Marathon crewmembers, alongside members of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), gathered near Everglades National Park in Southern Florida to witness Gumbo's return to the ocean. The release marked a significant milestone in Gumbo's rehabilitation journey and symbolized the triumph of conservation efforts in safeguarding marine life.
