Foreign students from Xinxiang Medical College experienced the charm of oracle bone inscriptions in central China's Henan on Thursday.

The activity was held to mark the 15th United Nations Chinese Language Day, which fell on April 20.

"After the meeting was over, I literally thought, wow, the Chinese character literally resembles the original thing. For example, the character of fire, it really resembles the real fire. China has a five-thousand-year history, and it's still continued."

Oracle bone inscriptions, or Jiaguwen, are an ancient Chinese language named for their inscriptions on tortoise shells and animal bones.

They are a primitive form of Chinese characters and the oldest fully-developed characters in China.
