Falling rocks at Chinese scenic spot strike tourists, killing 1
Falling rocks unexpectedly tumbled down, killing one and injuring several in northern China.
The aftermath video was filmed in Datong City in Shanxi Province on May 2.
Visitors were jolted by a thunderous noise, initially mistaken for a storm in the mountains. One tourist recounted hearing the sound and turning around only to see a large boulder accompanied by smaller stones rolling down the slope. She quickly put on her shoes and ran for safety.
By the evening, the scenic area’s management committee and various Hunyuan County departments reported that the rockslide had injured six visitors. Sadly, one of the injured succumbed to their injuries despite efforts to save them.
All tourists present during the incident had been safely evacuated from the mountain by the end of the day, and the area was promptly closed to the public.
The remaining five injured tourists were reported to be out of life-threatening danger, under observation and receiving treatment in a hospital.
Geological experts have since arrived at the site to assess and mitigate any further risks.
The video was provided by local media with permission.
