Six killed as massive rocks plummet onto bus from hill in China
Six people were dead and nine were injured as enormous boulders from a 30-metre-high hill crashed into a bus in southern China.
Terrifying video filmed in Fengjie County in Chongqing City on June 29 shows massive rocks suddenly falling down a mountain and striking a middle-size bus with 18 passengers on it.
The bus, belonging to the Fengjie County Hongtu Passenger Transport Company, was running its usual route with the driver and 18 passengers on board, one fewer than its maximum capacity.
The rock, breaking away from the hillside, targeted the tail end of the bus causing fatalities and injuries in its wake.
Six passengers tragically lost their lives at the scene, while another nine sustained minor injuries and were immediately rushed to the hospital. Three people escaped without harm.
Reacting to the terrifying event, the driver and passengers on the bus managed to initiate emergency self-rescue measures and promptly dialled for medical assistance.
The rescue operations have now been concluded and the Fengjie County authorities are engaged in the post-disaster process. They are focusing on treating the injured, consoling the families of the victims, and investigating possible safety hazards in order to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
The video was provided by local media with permission.
