Indian woman gives birth to five healthy quintuplets
An Indian woman gave birth naturally to five healthy quintuplets in India.
Tahira Begum, 20, who already has a three-year-old son, was unaware of the magnitude of the pregnancy until a few months after testing positive.
She gave birth to five baby girls at a private nursing home in Islampur, Maharashtra, on Sunday May 5. All of them weighed under 1.65lbs (750 grams).
Her husband Javed Alam was by her side. All of the babies were healthy and were kept in for observation over the coming days.
The attending physician, Doctor Farzana Noori, said that the mother had difficulty in labor, and they were preparing for the Caesarean procedure. However, they proceeded with the natural delivery.
Doctor Farzana said: 'This is the first time in my medical life that I have seen five babies together. There were no complications but because there were five, they were underweight. The heaviest was 750 grams.'
The delivery was successful without any complications, but the babies were underweight.
