Pig weighing 300kg caught after escaping from pen in Buddhist temple
A pig weighing 300kg was caught after escaping from a pen in the grounds of a Buddhist temple.
The three-year-old porker named Heng Heng broke out of its shelter in Wat Lamduan temple and wandered to a nearby fruit garden to find snacks in Trat province, Thailand on April 12.
It was spotted in the mangosteen garden owned by local Supple Puangsima, 42, and reported she had found the pig splashing in a muddy puddle.
Footage shows the large pig lying on its side in the mud while a monk is trying to ask it to come with them.
Lazy Heng Heng ignored them and remained in the position until it was bathed with a bucket of water.
When Heng Heng stood up, the monk tried to tie a belt around it so they could finally bring it home but it ran away.
The monk and the concerned locals chased Heng Heng around the property and after three hours livestock officials administered a tranquilizer in its ear and brought it home on a truck.
Five people helped carry the heavy pig onto the truck and out of it back to its pen.
Monk Phra Sumol Thanakaro said Heng Heng was donated to the temple.
He said: 'Heng Heng was kept in the temple surrounded by fences but around 9 am it was able to break the gate.'
The mangosteen farm owner Suphee added: 'At 9 AM, a pig entered my garden and started playing with water while I was watering the trees.
'I remembered that the pig belonged to Wat Lamduan, so I tried to chase it away. However, it refused to leave, so I called the monk to catch it.
'Despite our efforts, we couldn't bring it back to the temple. Eventually, we called the Trat Livestock Office for assistance and to administer a tranquillizer to bring it back to the temple in the evening.'
