A storm ripped through a classroom as it battered northern Thailand on Monday.

Video shows the room in disarray, with chairs and tables strewn about and debris littering the floor, after the storm hit the Phetchabun Rajabhat University in Phetchabun province on May 13.

A professor, Porkaew, said a projector screen and the classroom's glass walls were shattered. A car and a coverway at the school were also damaged.

The damage caused was being assessed, Porkaew added.

The Thai Meteorological Department forecasted that northern Thailand, including Phetchabun, would experience hot to very hot weather with haze during the day, while scattered thundershowers with gusty winds were expected in the afternoon.

Thailand and neighbouring countries in Southeast Asia are at the start of their annual monsoon rainy season which sees soaring temperatures followed by powerful rain storms. The rudimentary infrastructure often struggles with the deluge, leading to widespread flash floods.
