Monkey breaks into university dormitory sparking panic among students in China
On 14 May 2024, a scene of panic was captured on film as a monkey broke into a girls' dormitory at Guiyang University in Guizhou Province.
The filmer, Ms Lu, said in an interview that she was about to go out when she turned around to see the uninvited monkey squatting on her chair and looking right at her.
The girls in the dormitory immediately fell into a panic, but in the midst of their screams, the monkey not only did not leave but even climbed up to one of the beds and looked curiously at them through the bed curtains.
Before being discovered by her, the monkey had eaten some vegetables in the next dormitory and consumed some drinks on their balcony.
Ms Lu explained that since their university is next to the Qianling Mountains where there is a forest park nearby, monkeys can often be seen foraging for food and it is not actually scary. “In fact, the monkey seemed quite civilised; it didn't even mess up our shoes that we left on the balcony,” said Lu.
The unexpected monkey visitor was eventually shooed out by the filmer's roommate.
The security office was interviewed and said that the monkeys were coming for food and warned students not to interact with them to prevent being scratched.
