The Palestinian death toll from ongoing Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip had risen to 35,984, health authorities in the Palestinian enclave said in a press statement on Sunday.

During the past 24 hours, the Israeli army killed 81 Palestinians, and wounded 223 others which brought the total injuries to more than 80,600 since the Palestine-Israel conflict broke out in October 2023.

In the early hours of Monday, the media office in Gaza reported that Israeli forces conducted airstrikes on more than 10 UN-affiliated shelters in various areas including Jabalia, Nuseirat, Gaza City, and northwestern Rafah in the Gaza Strip over the past 24 hours, resulting in about 200 deaths.

Among the casualties, at least 50 people, mostly women and children, were killed and dozens of others injured in Israel's bombing of tents in northwestern Rafah, the southernmost city of the Gaza Strip, where thousands of displaced Palestinian people had sought refuge. This area had been classified by the Israeli forces as a "safe area" before the strike.

The Palestinian president's office condemned on early Monday that the Israeli attack on the Rafah refugee camp, labeling it an "atrocious massacre" and calling on the international community to intervene to halt what they termed Israel's "comprehensive aggression" against Palestinian territories.

In a statement issued early Monday, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said that Israeli warplanes, supported by the Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet), carried out an airstrike on targets in the northwestern area of Rafah on Sunday evening. The airstrike resulted in the deaths of two senior Hamas commanders. The IDF acknowledged that the attack caused injuries to several civilians and sparked a fire in the area. An investigation into these incidents is currently underway.

Citing an Egyptian official, multiple media outlets said on Sunday that ceasefire negotiations between Israel and Hamas would resume on Tuesday in Cairo, capital of Egypt. However, Hamas said that they have not been informed by mediators about the resumption of negotiations. They said they insisted on their previous stance, demanding a permanent ceasefire and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Gaza Strip.

Israel and Hamas have been involved in multiple rounds of negotiations since the latest Palestine-Israel conflict over seven months ago. However, there has been no significant progress since a temporary ceasefire was reached last November, which was agreed upon in exchange for the release of some detainees. Ceasefire talks involving Hamas, Israel, and relevant mediators began in Cairo on May 7. Two days later, an Israeli official disclosed that the ceasefire negotiations had collapsed, prompting the Israeli forces to continue their offensive in Rafah.
