This is the shocking moment a brawl erupted in the ring when a boxer taunted his losing opponent after the judge's decision.

Irish boxer Cathal Murphy defeated his adversary, Russian boxer Jambulat Bijamov, in a closely-fought Muay Thai bout at the Bangla Boxing Stadium in Phuket, Thailand, on May 26.

Footage shows the athlete in red shorts jumping in triumph as he was declared the victor, before appearing to gloat in front of the Russian boxer in the blue corner.

The Russian's trainer then stormed into the ring, sparking a brawl with some of the spectators also joining in the fray.

Security personnel halted the fight in two minutes, and the championship belt was awarded without further issue.

Speaking after, Cathal said: 'He was being disrespectful the entire night so I just wanted to rub it in at the end. I regret taunting him and putting my team at risk as I didn't expect him or his teammate to react that way after screaming at me in-between rounds.

'He had no respect for me so I didn't have any for him. The video doesn't show the full context of the night.'

Stadium President Sulaimal said no one was injured in the altercation.

Sports Authority of Thailand officials in Phuket summoned the two fighters on May 28 to explain the clash.

The boxers were shown in photos shaking hands after making amends.
