Mooresville, NC, USA - April 20, 2024

In a recent incident in Mooresville, a town council member found himself on the receiving end of a warning from a local police officer after being clocked at 71 mph in a 50 mph zone.

The encounter, which took place on April 20, was captured on both dash camera and body camera footage. The dash camera video shows the officer swiftly reacting to the speeding vehicle, while the body camera footage picks up shortly after, confirming the radar reading of 71 mph.

Upon pulling into a car wash, the officer engaged in a brief conversation with Mooresville town council member Josh Brown, who was in the midst of cleaning his Mustang convertible. Despite the officer's admonition regarding the speed violation, Brown did not receive a written warning, nor was his license or registration requested.

Mooresville Police Chief Buckner emphasized the discretionary authority afforded to officers in such situations, citing the need for a thorough review of citations to ascertain the frequency of speeding violations exceeding 20 mph over the limit.

However, the department does not maintain records of verbal warnings issued by officers, citing variations in individual approaches to enforcement.
