USA: Oxnard Officer-Involved Shooting

At approximately 11:26 P.M. on May 26, 2024, Oxnard police officers responded to several calls for service regarding a male subject walking in traffic with a sharp object in his possession in the area of Ventura Road and Doris Avenue. While on the scene, officers learned the subject had an outstanding arrest warrant for attempted murder from an unrelated stabbing incident.

Officers made contact with the subject, who had a sharp object in his hand. The officers gave commands to the subject, and he did not comply.  An officer-involved shooting occurred. 
Officers and EMS personnel rendered aid to the subject. He was transported to the Ventura County Medical Center and is currently listed in stable condition. 

The police officers were not injured.
The police officer’s body-worn camera captured the entire incident.  The Oxnard Police Department will share footage in a Community Critical Incident Debriefing, with a release date yet to be determined.
In accordance with standard protocol for officer-involved shootings, the involved officers have been placed on administrative leave as the investigation progresses. 

The Oxnard Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit, in conjunction with the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office, is investigating the incident. Oxnard Police officers responded to the intersection of Ventura Rd and Doris Ave for reports of a male in the roadway.

When officers arrived on scene, they made contact with the male who was armed with scissors.

The subject charged at the officers with the scissors and an officer-involved shooting occurred.

The male was transported to the hospital in critical condition.

No officers were injured.
