The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office (SJSO) has released chilling footage and a mugshot from a harrowing high-speed police chase on Northbound I-95 that left a Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) trooper significantly injured.

The pursuit, which unfolded on May 29, led to the apprehension of Alexandria Mason following a traffic stop initiated by SJSO deputies near I-95 and State Road 16. Mason, wanted on an active felony warrant from Citrus County, escalated the situation when a DUI unit deputy arrived to investigate potential impairment. Refusing to comply with commands, Mason fled northbound on I-95, driving recklessly.

As the pursuit intensified, involving the SJSO Aviation Unit and FHP, Mason's erratic driving posed a threat to public safety. FHP Troopers intervened with a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) maneuver near I-95 and Atlantic Blvd, ultimately halting the chase. However, during the maneuver, a citizen's vehicle was struck, fortunately resulting in no injuries, while an FHP Trooper sustained significant hand injuries.

Upon Mason's arrest, officers uncovered a stolen firearm, drug paraphernalia, and various controlled substances in her possession. She now faces a slew of charges, including aggravated fleeing and eluding a law enforcement officer, armed possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and DUI with property damage.

While FHP has taken initial steps in Mason's legal process, SJSO intends to add further charges, underscoring the severity of her actions. These may include DUI, refusal to comply with a lawful order, resisting a law enforcement officer, reckless driving, and aggravated fleeing and eluding.
