PORTER, Ind. — A high-speed pursuit through Porter County ended safely Wednesday evening after a Town of Porter Police officer used a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) maneuver to stop a fleeing driver.

At approximately 8:28 p.m. June 11, a Porter officer attempted to stop a 2004 Dodge Neon for tailgating and passing in a no-passing zone near 700 N. Waverly Road. The driver failed to comply and led police on a pursuit exceeding 100 mph through roads in Westchester and Pine Township.

The officer executed a successful PIT maneuver near Burdick Road and CR 575 E., forcing the vehicle into a farm field. The suspect surrendered without further incident or injury.

Matthew Mocabee, 31, of Portage, was arrested on preliminary charges of resisting law enforcement with a vehicle, possession of marijuana, and reckless driving.

The Porter County Sheriff’s Office and Joe’s Towing assisted at the scene.
