Heavy-handed police arrest woman, 22, for selling explicit pictures over social media
Heavy-handed police arrested an OnlyFans model for using social media to sell her explicit pictures in Thailand.
Cybercrime sleuths from the Metropolitan Police Bureau detained Naritsara, 22, on June 14 for allegedly running seven X accounts to advertise her adult content.
Police said the young woman was arrested at an apartment in Bangkok on charges of 'importing into a computer system any obscene content that the general public may access, publish or distribute,' and 'producing or possessing obscene media for commercial distribution or display to the public'.
Investigations found that the accounts on X - formerly Twitter but now owned by eccentric Elon Musk - with a total of more than 800,000 followers was linked to a bank account owned by Thanakorn, a shopping mall employee.
Police learned that Thanakorn was Naritsara's brother-in-law, and had him lead them to her condominium.
During the arrest, Naritsara allegedly admitted to the charges, and said she had quit her job in 2021 to become an OnlyFans model with a higher income.
She was taken to the Huai Khwang Police Station for further legal proceedings.
Police Major General Theeradet Thumsuthee, commander of the Investigation Division of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, said: 'Those who appear in these kinds of videos, produce them, share them, or profit from them are considered offenders according to the law.
'Therefore, please understand why police officers must enforce the law. One day, you will have to leave this field for your own life or pursue other occupations.
'You and those around you are directly affected by this. Please do not only consider the short-term benefits. This kind of job that may seem high-paying today is merely sugar-coated poison that will have severe consequences in the future.'
Creating and distributing pornography is illegal in Thailand, which is also known for its seedy nightlife and numerous red-light districts.
Under Section 287 of the Thai Penal Code, violators may face jail of up to three years, a fine of up to 6,000 THB (130 GBP), or both.
