Hero security guard saves couple from teenage thugs in road rage attack
This is the dramatic moment a hero security guard saved a couple from teenage thugs in a road rage attack in Thailand.
Panipat Rumpakdee, 24, responded to the commotion as the teenage goons mobbed motorcycle rider Kitti Meekhunprasert, 23, and his girlfriend Wanwisa Simra, 16, at the entrance of a housing estate in Samut Prakan, Thailand, on June 11 evening.
CCTV footage shows the brave officer chasing off the violent suspects with a baton despite being outnumbered. He then called an ambulance as Kitti suffered a deep slash on his head, while Wanwisa injured her wrist defending him.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Phawat Rattanaporn, deputy superintendent of Investigation of the Bang Phli Police Station said investigators were able to track down the attackers, who were residents of the housing estate.
The pair, identified as brothers Tor and Tao, 15 and 17, were arrested. Cops also confiscated from them a scythe, a flattened iron rod with a handle believed to have injured Kitti, and the clothes they were wearing during the incident.
Kitti's girlfriend, Wanwisa, said: 'We were riding home when one of the suspects cut in front of our motorcycle. My boyfriend looked at his face, which angered him so he started hurling insults at us.
'Kitti shot insults back, but I told him to stop to avoid further conflict. However, the suspects followed us to the entrance of the housing estate, where they then attacked us. We were lucky a security guard booth was nearby.'
The security guard, Panipat, said: 'I was on duty when I heard a commotion near the entrance of the village. When I turned to look, there was a group of teenagers physically assaulting another young man, so I grabbed my baton and ran to help him. I used my shirt to stem the bleeding from his wound.'
Police Colonel Pairoj Petchploy, superintendent of the Bang Phli Police Station, said the brothers have allegedly admitted to the attack.
He said: 'From the initial investigation and questioning, it was found that the attack was carried out with a steel rod, not with a knife as the victim initially believed.
'The victims' injuries, as certified by the doctor, required the victim to rest for three days. While this constitutes assault, it was not deemed severe. Therefore, the suspects have been charged with assault, which only carries a fine.'
He noted that one of the brothers, Tor, had prior records of motorcycle thefts at the Bang Phli and Bang Kaew Police Stations.
Tor also reportedly had an attempted murder charge filed against him at the Bang Pu Police Station, but the case was under review because he was a juvenile.
