Ship appears to levitate in front of Shivering Sands Forts off Kent, UK
A ship appeared to hover in front of historic Thames Estuary forts yesterday afternoon (June 30) off Kent, UK.
In an optical illusion known as a fata morgana (mirage) - the upper parts of a ship are seen to hover above the natural horizon - due to the way light can bend on warm days.
However, in this mind-bending footage the ship not only hovers above the horizon but also appears to pass in front of the Shivering Sands forts of the Kent coast.
Two other ships are also seen hovering, but as they passed behind the closer Red Sands forts.
The footage was filmed yesterday afternoon to the far east of Sheerness seafront using a super telephoto lens.
