16 Pilgrims rescued safely by SDRF amidst bridge collapse in northern India
In northern India's Uttarakhand, SDRF rescued 8 pilgrims safely who were stranded amidst bridge collapse.
The rescue took place near Chirbasa on the Gaumukh Trek Uttarkashi district on July 5.
Visuals showed the SDRF working effortlessly towards rescuing the stranded pilgrims by helping them cross the river with the help of a rope.
Speaking to Newslions, Lalita Negi, SDRF Media Coordinator of Uttarakhand Control Room, stated that on the night of July 4, 2024, the Gangotri police post in District Uttarkashi informed the SDRF team about the collapse of the Chirbasa bridge, which left around 40 pilgrims stranded on the other side of the river. Acting swiftly on this information, an SDRF team led by Sub-Inspector Savar Singh, armed with essential rescue equipment, set out for the incident site early this morning. The team trekked approximately 8 km to reach the location and successfully rescued 16 pilgrims. SDRF Rescue Team Incharge Savar Singh communicated via satellite phone that the team is relentlessly working to rescue the remaining pilgrims, and all of them will be safely evacuated soon.
