UK: Suspect Hurls Fridge at Police in High-Speed Dashcam Drama
Llantrisant, United Kingdom - April 08, 2024
A dramatic high-speed pursuit through the village of Llantrisant culminated in Cardiff Crown Court hearing harrowing details of reckless endangerment and dangerous driving by 31-year-old Daniel Symmons. Dashcam footage revealed shocking moments as Symmons, evading police in a van, hurled objects including a fridge, a can of cider, a spanner, and an unknown liquid at pursuing officers.
The incident unfolded when police, tipped off about a suspicious vehicle with false plates near the Three Saints Hotel, were ambushed as the van suddenly appeared behind them. As officers gave chase, Symmons escalated the situation by aggressively maneuvering and flinging objects from the van's windows, eventually ramming a police car in reverse, injuring an officer.
In a desperate bid to evade capture, Symmons abandoned the van near St David's Church in Tonyrefail and fled on foot, only to be apprehended with the help of a vigilant member of the public. Further investigation revealed he was under the influence of cocaine at the time of the incident.
During sentencing, Symmons, represented by his lawyer, acknowledged his struggles with substance abuse and expressed remorse for his actions. He was sentenced to 10 months in prison, with a requirement to serve up to half that time in custody and the remainder on community release. Additionally, Judge Nic Parry imposed a 23-month driving ban, emphasizing the gravity of Symmons' prolonged and dangerous driving behavior.
