A woman discovered a rusty knife blade measuring approximately 10 centimetres in her takeaway meal in eastern China.

The shocking incident was filmed in Shanghai on July 4.

The woman, named Ms Zhang, ordered a takeaway through a popular food delivery platform. However, upon opening the meal package in anticipation, she was alarmed to find a foreign object embedded within the food.

Initially mistaking it for undercooked ingredients or seaweed, Zhang’s apprehension grew as she realised it was a heavily rusted and razor-sharp utility knife blade.

Measuring about 10 centimetres in length with remnants of white adhesive tape clinging to one end, the blade posed a grave threat. Zhang expressed her shock, noting that had she not been in dim lighting and alert, she might have accidentally ingested the blade, with potentially disastrous consequences.

Upon discovering the blade, Zhang promptly photographed it as evidence and contacted the food delivery service. However, the initial response from the vendor offered only a refund and a replacement meal, which left Zhang dissatisfied.

Zhang argued that such a response failed to address the serious threat to her safety and highlighted significant lapses in the vendor’s food safety protocols.

After unsuccessful attempts to resolve the issue directly with the vendor, Zhang decided to publicise the incident online, disclosing the name of the implicated establishment, 'Zu Chuan'.

Her intention was to caution other consumers to remain vigilant and to prompt regulatory authorities to take decisive action regarding food safety standards.
