Flash floods caused by record rainfall claim 5 lives in northern China.

The dramatic video was filmed in Baoji City in Shaanxi Province on July 17.

The city experienced torrential rainfall, with an average precipitation of 89.8 millimetres, resulting in the highest single-day rainfall on record for the city.

By 18 July at 6:00 p.m., the devastating floods had claimed 5 lives and left 8 people missing.

Several rivers in the city surpassed warning levels, causing mountain torrents and flooding that breached embankments. The Weibei and Fengxian districts were hit particularly hard, while other areas also suffered varying degrees of damage.

The Baocheng Railway between Fengzhou and Qiliping was disrupted, and four major national and provincial roads were damaged and closed. Additionally, over 40 rural roads and 21 bridges were destroyed by floodwaters.

The intense rainfall also trapped numerous residents and damaged crops over 1,233.3 hectares, severely impacting daily life and production. Rescue and recovery operations are ongoing, with efforts focused on restoring normalcy to the affected communities.
