On 16 October, in Hainan Prefecture, Qinghai Province, a lorry lost its brakes while going downhill, causing it to swerve uncontrollably before colliding head-on with a Mercedes-Maybach travelling in the opposite direction.

Both vehicles were severely damaged in the crash. The repair cost for the Mercedes-Maybach was estimated to exceed 70%–80% of its current market value, and it has been declared a total loss.

Fortunately, only minor injuries were reported. The car’s driver, Mr Liang, recalled that his mind went blank at the moment of impact, but he and his wife were lucky to escape with only twisted ankles and no life-threatening injuries.

The incident is currently under further investigation.
