On August 3, Saturday, Bihar agriculture department organised a two-day Makhana Mahotsav 2024 organized at Gyan Bhawan, Patna was inaugurated by Agriculture Minister Mangal Pandey.

The purpose of the 'Makhana Mahotsav' is to boost the morale of farmers in Bihar. CM Nitish Kumar has directed that the production of makhana be promoted and that farmers be provided with facilities and support to encourage them to produce more makhana..." says Mangal Pandey, Health and Agriculture Minister of Bihar.

Makhana is exported to neighboring countries as well as to the United States, United Kingdom, Australia and Gulf countries. Due to the many health benefits of Makhana, its demand is expected to increase in the near future. From the production point of view, the price of Makhana in the national markets is almost double as compared to the local market. In Bihar, Makhana is cultivated in a total of 27,663 hectares, while 56,326 metric tons of seeds/goods are produced.
