Shocking moment electric car catches fire after hitting loose brick in southern China
An electric car caught fire after hitting a loose brick in southern China.
The CCTV footage was filmed in Chongqing on August 10.
A Deepal electric vehicle struck a damaged, hollow stone brick, causing it to flip up and hit the vehicle’s undercarriage, momentarily lifting the car off the ground.
In an instant, flames erupted from the car’s undercarriage and quickly intensified.
In a surprising turn of events, the once-raging flames extinguished themselves after a short period.
According to Deepal Automotive CEO Deng Chenghao, the fire was able to self-extinguish within 25 seconds due to the innovative fire-resistant and heat-insulating design of the car's super-extended battery.
These features effectively contained the flames, preventing further spread, and played a crucial role in safeguarding the occupants and the vehicle.
The incident was triggered when the battery’s undercarriage was severely damaged, leading to a breach and subsequent ignition of the cells. However, the superior performance of the vehicle's battery allowed the fire to die out on its own.
Following the incident, the vehicle's system and backend data safety platform immediately issued an alert. The Deepal team quickly contacted the customer to confirm their safety.
Fortunately, no one was injured.
