A Russian couple, Evgeny Baturin, 38, and Ekaterina Zabavskaya, 36, were among the 13 people killed by a landslide near a luxury villa in Southern Thailand's Soi Patak 2, Phuket, on August 23. The couple, who had relocated from Vladivostok, Russia, and lived in Phuket for around 13 years, had plans to marry this year.

The landslide, triggered by heavy rain, claimed the lives of two Thai, two Russian, and nine Burmese workers. The search operation concluded on August 24 after all bodies were recovered. Phuket Governor Sophon Suwannarat reported that the disaster impacted three districts, affecting 209 families across nine villages. Nineteen others were injured, with three remaining hospitalized.

The bodies of the Thai victims have been retrieved, and the Russian victims' bodies will be handed over to Russian authorities for family notification. Restoration efforts began immediately, focusing on repairing public utilities and houses, clearing traffic lanes, and removing toppled power poles.

The incident occurred during Southeast Asia's annual monsoon season, characterized by soaring temperatures and powerful afternoon rainstorms leading to widespread flash floods.
