Lucky opossum avoids serious injury by falling out of lawnmower as it's turned on
A lucky opossum avoided serious injury after it fell out of a lawnmower milliseconds before a homeowner managed to switch it on.
Sean Sweeney was just getting ready to do some gardening at home in Kansas, USA, on July 22 when he pulled equipment out of the garage.
Amazing footage – which has been viewed more than 3million times – shows Sean pull on the lawnmower’s cord to try and get it started.
After Sean’s second attempt, an opossum that had been hiding in the motor fell out and scurried to safety under their house.
Sean’s wife Kristyn said: “Sean casually came in and told me an opossum ran out of the mower. It wasn’t until we saw the CCTV footage that we saw how close it was.
“It just kinda caught him off guard. Fortunately it was not injured.
“We do have a lot of opossums, as well as squirrels, armadillos, snakes, etc. But we’ve never found one in the mower before.”
