Bystanders watch on in shock as huge boulders crash down mountain at tourist hotspot in China
Tourists watched in shock as a rockfall saw huge boulders crash down a mountain at a hotspot in Jilin Province, eastern China.
Footage from August 21 shows the rockfall at Changbai Mountain Scenic Area where around 10 cubic metres of boulders rolled down.
According to analysis, the rockfall incident is related to the rock type of Changbai Mountain, the recent increase in rainfall, and the complex geological structure. The rocks of the mountain are primarily volcanic rocks, which are relatively loose in structure and have weak resistance to weathering.
No injuries or damages to facilities were reported.
