Passengers were given oxygen when the air conditioning system reportedly malfunctioned on a budget airline flight in India.

Footage shows customers on IndiGo flight 6E 2235 sweltering in the cabin due to the alleged aircon failure on September 5.

Several passengers were said to have fainted from the intense heat as the Airbus A320 plane flew from the Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi to the Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport in Varanasi.

In a statement, IndiGo claimed the aircon system was functioning, but a 'temperature shift' caused the cabin to heat up.

The statement said: 'We extend our apologies for the inconvenience experienced on flight 6E 2235 operating from Delhi to Varanasi on September 5, 2024.

'The discomfort was attributed to fluctuations in cabin temperature, which were adjusted in response to passenger requests. Our cabin crew promptly extended assistance to the affected passengers to address the situation.'

A similar incident occurred on another IndiGo flight in June.

Flight 6E 2521 from Delhi to Bagdogra experienced an hour-long aircon failure that caused several passengers to suffer breathing difficulties.

IndiGo apologised and blamed the incident on 'high ground temperatures'.
