Footage shows the aftermath of a building collapse that killed at least five locals and injured 24 others in India on Saturday afternoon.

The five-storey structure gave way in the Transport Nagar area of Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, at around 5pm local time. Survivors pulled from the rubble were taken to Lok Bandhu Hospital in the state capital.

Rescue teams were searching for more victims trapped inside the rubble of the concrete building.

Officials said the building was being used as a warehouse, with a motor workshop on the ground floor, a medical facility on the first floor and a cutlery warehouse on the second floor.

Relief Commissioner GS Naveen Kumar said: 'Rescue teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) have been deployed to the scene and are working to extricate the trapped individuals.'
