A balcony window shattered and plunged from an apartment building as Super Typhoon Yagi battered China.

Footage shows the glass and metal structure being ripped from the frame by powerful gusts that battered homes in Hainan on September 6.

The residents cowered in fear inside as the powerful storm lashed outside.

Yagi was Asia's most powerful storm this year, triggering landslides and floods that killed at least 24 people in Vietnam, where it recently made landfall.

Four people also died in the Chinese holiday of Hainan in its path after coming from the Philippines, where it killed at least 20 residents.

The tropical cyclone intensified into a super typhoon last week, causing a trail of destruction in the region.
