A super-calm local floated across floods outside his home on a folded mattress.

Footage shows the resident leaning his back on the mattress as currents pushed him across the street in Phuket, Thailand, on September 16.

The area was submerged by heavy rain from the southwest monsoon affecting the Andaman Sea and the west coast.

A regional meteorological centre advisory said in an advisory: ‘The Southern Meteorological Centre warns of heavy rain to very heavy rainfall in the provinces of Ranong, Phang Nga, Phuket, Krabi, Trang, and Satun.'

Thailand and neighbouring countries in Southeast Asia are at the start of their annual monsoon rainy season, which sees soaring temperatures followed by powerful rain storms. The rudimentary infrastructure often struggles with the deluge, leading to widespread flash floods.
