Man pays overdue rent in COINS forcing staff to count for 3 hours in China
On September 20, in Dalian, Liaoning Province, a man, dissatisfied with his residential property's management service, chose a unique way to pay off three years' worth of overdue property fees, amounting to over 6,400 yuan, by using a large number of coins after being sued and urged by the property company to make the payment.
The man arrived at the property management office with a bag full of coins. These coins ranged in value from 1 yuan, 0.5 yuan, to 0.1 yuan denominations, totalling over 6,400 yuan. Faced with such a large quantity of coins, the property company had to temporarily arrange for seven staff members to count them.
According to property company staff, the process of counting the coins was extremely tedious, requiring them to identify the denomination of each coin, sort them, and ensure the total amount was accurate. The entire process took more than three hours to complete.
When asked why he chose to pay in coins, the man explained that he runs a supermarket and had accumulated a large amount of coins over time. He stated that his intention was not malicious, but rather to encourage the property management to take their work more seriously and improve the quality of their services.
The incident sparked widespread attention and debate online. Some netizens sympathised with the man's actions, viewing it as a form of protest and a reminder to improve property services. However, others argued that while legal, this approach could waste the property company's resources and might not be the best solution.
