Young boy goes fishing in dam and catches an eel (almost!)
In this fascinating video, Samuel (aged 7) carries his fishing rod and a garden trowel to the murky dam at the bottom of his family's property.
He digs up a large worm, which his father then puts on the hook.
Samuel casts the bait into the dam, and then sits on his haunches, waiting for a bite.
Only after a minute or so, his fishing rod wobbles with a bite, and Samuel starts reeling in the line.
Out of the murky mud, a large short finned Australian eel emerges, writhing and twisting, attempting to dislodge the hook.
The eel is almost grotesque with its fat white belly and vigouros twisting motion.
The camera pans from eel to boy and back to eel as we watch the struggle to reel it in. Samuel is nervous and a bit scared about winding the eel all the way in and he has some great facial expressions as he does so.
Eventually the eel manages to spit out the hook and escape back into the murky waters of the dam.
Samuel loves catching the eels from the dam. He and his Dad then smoke them in a charcoal fire and eat them as a snack!
The family live near Sydney Australia, where Jacob the Dad teaches Science and runs his YouTube Channel 'Make Science Fun'
