Indian pilot refuses to take-off causing five-hour delay for passengers
This is the moment an Indian pilot refused to take off - causing a five-hour delay for passengers.
The IndiGo captain delayed Flight 6E 361 from Pune to Bengaluru due to rules limiting his flying hours, causing frustration among travellers onboard the Airbus A320 in Maharashtra, India, on September 24.
Footage shows passengers crowding outside the cabin, seeking an explanation for the delay. The airline operator shut the cabin door, further aggravating the situation.
The flight eventually took off at 5:44 am and landed in Bangalore at 6:50 am.
Passengers reported a lack of communication and support from the airline, noting they were not offered refreshments, compensation for the delay, or lounge access.
An IndiGo spokesman said : 'The flight was delayed due to operational reasons related to flight duty time limitations.
'Customers were informed about the delay, and our team was available to assist them throughout the duration. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.'
In a local interview, aviation expert Sanjay Lazar said that pilot and crew duty hours are regulated globally to ensure safety.
'Pilots cannot exceed their duty limits as this could lead to penalties from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and affect their licenses. For the sake of flight safety, the pilot knows exactly what he is doing,' he added.
